Ipswich BMX Club celebrated the reopening of their Landseer Park track in style yesterday with a fantastic days racing.
The Grand Reopening Race began with a few words from some of our key sponsors including Ian Doe of British Cycling, Sarah Mortimer from Community Action Suffolk speaking on behalf of the Peoples Trust and David Elsmere leader of Ipswich Borough Council. Oliver Underwood from Clark & Kent Contractors was also on hand to talk about the track along with club member Robert Haynes who spoke about what IBMXC had meant to him over his lifetime.
Robert, AKA Bean who has been riding with the club since its inception then cut the ceremonial ribbon with Rhylee one of our youngest members!
As you can see from the images the track made for some exciting racing and it the positivity around the UK's oldest running BMX club was palpable. There were plenty of faces both new and old who made it trackside to enjoy the day including Bryan Potter one of IBMXC’s founders, local councillors and local MP Tom Hunt.
A big thank you to everyone who helped in whatever way to ensure we were ready for this day; your efforts are greatly appreciated. We couldn’t be more proud of our members and their families for the time they’ve given up over recent months and it was so gratifying to see so many broad smiles on their faces throughout the day.
The great thing is we get to do it all over in two weeks’ time when the club host the East Anglian Championship on Sunday 26th September!
It's been great to receive plenty of media attention surrounding our Grand Reopening Race. Click here for BBC Suffolk article and here for the Ipswich Star report.
